The urgent need for a BC agreement with the National School Food Program
In 2024, the federal government committed $1 billion over five years to establish the National School Food Program, with an investment of $200 million annually. Provincial governments must sign an agreement with the federal government to access the funding. The government of BC can secure millions in federal funding by signing the National School Food Program Agreement—but we need it to happen by March 31. This will solidify the allocation of $79 million, the first-year investment of the National School Food Program, and support BC students within this school year through the existing Feeding Futures Program.
What can you do?
The Coalition for Healthy School Food has a template you can use to send a letter or email to Premier David Eby and Honourable Lisa Beare, Minister of Education and Child Care. You can share this letter to encourage the provincial NDP to have an agreement in place by the end of March to ensure millions of dollars are directly helping feed children and youth in BC.
